If you don't have a pool, a dedicated poly tank is the practical way to guarantee water when the hydrants drop. Site it away from the house with a 1.5 in outlet and camlock fitting ready for your pump.
Before you buy
- Match pump output (GPM / LPM) to your sprinkler kit's total demand plus one hose line.
- Gas pumps are the standard; keep fuel stabilized and test-run monthly in fire season.
- A 1,000–2,500 gallon (4,000–10,000 L) poly tank is the practical minimum for a sprinkler-defended home without a pool.
- Use 1.5 in fire hose with camlock or NH-threaded fittings — garden hose kinks and melts.
- Store the pump, hose and fittings in one pre-connected kit. In an evacuation you will not have time to hunt for adapters.
