Structure wrap is a fibreglass or silica fabric with an aluminized face, stapled over an entire building to reflect radiant heat and block embers. It's labour-intensive and best suited to small buildings, sheds, and propane tanks. Personal fire blankets and fire-escape blankets belong in every kitchen and go-bag regardless.

Firezat Fire Shield Structure Wrap
Aluminized fibreglass wrap of the type used by the US Forest Service to protect historic cabins and lookouts. Reflects up to 95% of radiant heat. Realistic for sheds, cabins, pump houses and tank enclosures.
Fire-Resistant Propane Tank Cover
A silica or aluminized cover for BBQ and heating propane cylinders. Tanks venting near a house are a major secondary ignition source; a cover buys time and reduces radiant heat on the tank.
Before you buy
- Structure wrap needs 2–4 people and several hours to install; buy it well before fire season and rehearse the install.
- Wrap must overlap and be sealed at every seam and edge — embers find gaps.
- Small propane tank covers are cheap and worthwhile; propane tanks venting near a home are a major ignition source.
- Kitchen fire blankets (1 m × 1 m fibreglass) are not wildfire products but should be in every home.
- Personal fire shelters (as used by wildland crews) are a last resort and require training — they are not a substitute for evacuating early.
