Equipment & Vehicle Suppression

Small automatic systems that live inside the cabinet, machine or engine bay where the fire starts.

Some fires start inside an enclosure: an electrical cabinet, a CNC machine, a fume hood, the engine compartment of a bus or loader. Room-level systems either cannot reach them or would flood a whole building to deal with a box. Local-application systems put detection and agent right at the source, usually with a pressurised tube that bursts at the hot spot and needs no electrical power. They are bought through the makers' distributors and are often driven by insurers or fleet operators rather than building codes.

Before you buy

  1. Match the agent to the equipment: clean agent for electronics, dry chemical or foam where fuel and hydraulic fluid are involved.
  2. Ask for the listing or approval that applies to your use. Approvals differ between cabinet systems and vehicle systems, and not every product carries one.
  3. These systems still need periodic inspection. Detection tubing ages, and a system that has quietly lost pressure protects nothing.
  4. For vehicles and mobile equipment, check what your insurer, fleet contract or transit authority requires before choosing a brand.
