A containment tool for trained crews, not an extinguisher

EV / Vehicle Fire Blankets

Bridgehill Canada & United States $$$ · No reliable public price; sold through dealers

Large, reusable fire-resistant blankets are pulled over a burning vehicle to contain flames and smoke until it burns out or can be moved. Fire departments, parking operators and fleets buy them.

Why we like it

  • Limits fire spread to nearby vehicles and structures
  • Bridgehill claims its car blankets are reusable for up to 10 vehicle fires
  • Graphite or pyroxene cores rated to about 2,500 °C or 1,600 °C

Watch out for

  • Does not stop thermal runaway inside the battery pack
  • Needs two or more trained people to deploy
  • No recognized North American performance standard verified; test evidence is contested
Best for

How it works

Two or more trained people unroll the blanket over the burning vehicle. It restricts oxygen to the fire and holds in flames and smoke, limiting spread to nearby vehicles and structures. It does not stop thermal runaway inside an EV battery pack — the vehicle can keep burning under the blanket. Bridgehill's car blankets use graphite or pyroxene cores rated to about 2,500 °C or 1,600 °C respectively.

Who needs it

Not code-required. Parking garage operators, fleets and fire services.

Codes, standards and listings

Canada
No recognized Canadian performance standard verified.
United States
No recognized US performance standard verified. Bridgehill's site names only ISO 9001/14001 (management systems), not a fire-blanket performance standard, for its EV products.

What the market looks like

Bridgehill's models include Car Pro X, Car Standard and Car Standard 2. In North America they are sold through Bridgehill's partner portal and fire service equipment dealers; consumer retail is not typical. We found no reliable public price.

Features that actually matter

Full-vehicle coverage
Sized to cover a car.
High-temperature cores
Graphite (about 2,500 °C) or pyroxene (about 1,600 °C) on Bridgehill products.
Reusable
Bridgehill claims up to 10 vehicle fires per blanket — a manufacturer claim.

What it really costs

Up front
No reliable public figure — get quotes.
Consumables
Replacement once a blanket reaches its use limit or fails inspection.
What else you'll need
Training for the people who will deploy it.
Over five years
Inspection after each use and per manufacturer. No reliable public figure.

We found no reliable public price source for vehicle fire blankets in Canada or the US, so no figures are given. Get dealer quotes, including training.

How it differs from the alternatives

Versus extinguishers
A blanket contains; it does not extinguish a battery fire.
The evidence question
Bridgehill itself argues that major international research programs did not test its operational dry-deployment method — so the published test evidence on EV blankets is contested from both directions.
01

Buying it

Effort Moderate

Where: Bridgehill's North American partner portal (partner.bridgehill.com/north-america) and fire service equipment dealers. Not typically sold at consumer retail.

Lead time: Through dealers; not usually stocked at retail

Buy training along with the blanket; deployment by untrained people near a burning vehicle is dangerous.

02

Installing it

Effort Trivial

Time: None — stored in a cabinet or vehicle

You'll need:

Store where trained staff can reach it quickly, away from the most likely fire locations.

03

Living with it

Effort Trivial

Inspect after each use and per the manufacturer's schedule.

If not this, then what

  • Garage sprinkler and design upgradesThe building-level answer to vehicle fires in parking structures.
  • Leave it to the fire serviceFor most private owners, calling 911 and evacuating is the right plan.

Caveats

  • A containment tool, not extinguishment; it requires training to deploy.
  • No recognized North American performance standard verified.
  • Test evidence is contested — Bridgehill itself argues major research programs did not test its dry-deployment method.
Our verdict

Useful for fire departments and garage operators with trained staff who need to keep a vehicle fire from spreading. It is a containment tool with contested test evidence and no North American standard, so do not treat it as an extinguisher or as a substitute for good garage design.
